Accra has often been referred to as the Star of African growth but for some reasons does not seem to be able to deal with garbage disposal. Despite the glamorous parts of Accra, that are regularly shown in movies, a majority of the city lacks many necessities, and the denizens are forced to live in poor surroundings.

Numbeo.com published the 2016 mid-year pollution index, a website that tracks several countries on pollution, health, crime, among others.

The site, however, noted that the index was built on “on perceptions (opinions) from visitors of this website.”
The website also explains that specifically for the population index, they also relied on World Health Organization and other institutions.

Accra, Ghana being the only country from West Africa included in the list, also top the list of “Most Polluted Cities in Africa.”
