ARSENAL - 1998-99
Lens 1-1 Arsenal
In Arsene Wenger's first Champions League campaign with the Gunners, they failed to reach the last 16 in a weak group.
In a game they should have won, Overmars slotted home from a neat pass by Emmanuel Petit, following a brilliant piece of skill by a young Nicolas Anelka. The strike was cancelled out by a late Tony Vairelles goal.

BLACKBURN ROVERS - 1995-96
Blackburn 0-1 Spartak Moscow
Following their title-winning season in 1994-95, Blackburn's Champions League campaign proved a huge disappointment as they crashed out in the group stages.
A 41st-minute lobbed finish from Sergei Yuran separated the sides. Blackburn's team that night included names such as Graeme Le Saux, captain Tim Sherwood, Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton.

CHELSEA - 1999-00
Chelsea 0-0 AC Milan
Years later, Sutton and La Saux would make substitute appearances in Chelsea's debut tie against Italian giants Milan, in the pre-Abramovich era.
The Blues' team also featured a host of former Serie A players including Marcel Desailly and Gianfranco Zola. They would eventually lose to Barcelona in the quarter-finals that season.

LEEDS UNITED - 2001-02
Barcelona 4-0 Leeds
Leeds were taught a footballing lesson by a star-studded Barcelona team.
Brazilian maestro Rivaldo opened the scoring and a brilliant free-kick and Frank de Boer doubled their advantage. A further two goals from De Boer's fellow Dutchman Patrick Kluivert made it a night to forget for the West Yorkshire club.
They would, however, go on to reach the semi-finals in a famous campaign. How the mighty have fallen.

LIVERPOOL - 2001-02
Liverpool 1-1 Boavista
After Liverpool conceded inside two minutes, a young and in-form Michael Owen bagged an equaliser for a hard-earned point.
Liverpool would go on to reach the quarter-finals before being defeated by finalists Bayer Leverkusen.

MANCHESTER CITY - 2011-12
Manchester City 1-1 Napoli
It was a historic occasion for the Manchester City money revolution under Roberto Mancini.
In a tense affair, an Aleksandar Kolarov free-kick cancelled out an Edinson Cavani opener.

MANCHESTER UNITED - 1993-94
Kispest Honved 2- 3 Man Utd
Having signed that summer for a British transfer record of £3.75million, Roy Keane showed his worth scoring twice, and Eric Cantona found the net as well.
This would prove to be a forgettable Champions League campaign for United. They would, however, go on to win a memorable double that season.

NEWCASTLE UNITED - 1997-98
Newcastle 3-2 Barcelona
In his finest display for Newcastle, cult hero Tino Asprilla scored a famous hat-trick on an emphatic night.
Newcastle managed to hold on despite late goals from Luis Figo and Luis Enrique. The treble would be prove to the Colombian's last goals for the club.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR - 2010-11
Werder Bremen 2-2 Tottenham
Spurs made a fine start to Champions League life through an early Bremen own goal and a Peter Crouch header but later threw away their advantage.
They would go on to lose to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
