This Is How Poverty And Father’s Early Death Forced Omotola Into Marriage At Age 18 (+ PHOTOS)

Nigerian superstar, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, is one of the country’s most recognisable faces today.
She has acted in over 300 movies and has received several awards in the course of her work as a Nollywood actress, including being named among Times 100 Most Influential People in 2013.
But life was not always rosy. Reports indicate that Omotola’s life took a dramatic turn from good to bad when her father and sole provider for the family, Mr Shola Jolade, died in 1991, when she was just 13.

From that moment onwards, Omotola’s family reportedly had to rely on the benevolence of friends to survive.
The hardship in the family is said to have pushed her into an early marriage to Captain Matthew Ekeinde in 1996 when she was 18.

Reports say she had faced a choice between becoming a prostitute and getting married.

The couple later held a white ceremony on board a Dash 7 aircraft while flying from Lagos to Benin in 2001, with close family and friends present.

Omotola gave birth to her first daughter on 30 March 1997.

Together, they have four children, Princess, M.J, Merairah and Michael.
